Pyrenex is the story of a love affair with feathers and the work they do, handed down from generation to generation, from collection to washing, sorting and manufacturing. At the heart of the Pyrenex DNA: high-quality, natural, upcycled French down.
Discover its secretsSince June 2020, Pyrenex has been proudly bearing the ‘Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant’ (EPV) label. Awarded by the French Ministry of the Economy and Finance, this distinction recognises the excellence of French know-how and rewards the work of the employees and collaborators who contribute to Pyrenex's dynamism day after day.
Since 1859, Abel Crabos has been collecting goose and duck feathers from markets and farms in the Landes region around his native village of Saint-Sever.
René Crabos, his son, joins the family company ‘Abel Crabos & Fils’ based in Saint-Sever. René, a rugby champion and captain of the French national team, embodied the values of commitment, trust and solidarity that forge the company's distinctive character.
Marie Crabos, wife of René, designed and made the first ‘solidarity’ down jackets with a humanitarian aim: to protect the Landaise prisoners of war in the village of Saint-Sever from the cold. The down jackets were sent to Germany via the Red Cross.
André Crabos, René's son, set up the first bedding workshops in the heart of the Saint-Sever manufacture.
Jean Pierre Crabos, André's brother, joins the family business.
The name evokes the nearby mountain range, the favourite terrain for its products. It was also the year in which the first sleeping bags were created.
