For spring and autumn, yes; for the depths of winter, no. The children’s John is rated for -5 °C to +10 °C, while the Dorel and Cheslin are rated for +5 °C to +15 °C. They are pieces for spring and autumn, or for layering under a coat. In extreme cold, a sleeved down jacket rated for -20 °C to 0 °C is still needed. Otherwise, pair the sleeveless jacket with a very thick jumper underneath.

Are there kids' sleeveless down jackets with a hood?

Yes. The John and Cheslin have fixed hoods adjustable with an elastic drawcord. The Cheslin also packs into its own bag, handy for a school bag or travel bag.

Are children's sleeveless down jackets made with real down?

Yes, they are filled with upcycled French duck down from the Pyrenex factory in Saint-Sever, comprising 80% down and 20% feathers. Children’s down jackets generally have a fill power of 550 to 650 cuin, giving them very good thermal insulation.
