Feather and down allergy: myth or reality?

Made from keratin, like human hair and nails, feathers and down are not allergenic by nature. Any discomfort can come from a number of other allergenic agents, such as dust or dust mites, if the bedding is not sufficiently ventilated or maintained. To guarantee perfect cleanliness and sanitation, Pyrenex feathers and down undergo several washes before being sterilised in an oven at over 100°. This treatment makes the down hypoallergenic. At the end of the process, the final product has achieved a very high level of cleanliness. In fact, feather and down fillings evacuate moisture much better than polyester, making them much less suitable for the development of dust mites. What's more, the very tight weave of our cotton covers, initially designed to contain the down hermetically, provides a natural barrier to dust mites. According to recent studies, down contains 8 times fewer dust mites than polyester filling. So the easiest way to limit the risk of allergies is to look after your bedding regularly. Machine washed and dried, they will be free of allergens and feathers and down will once again regain their loft.

The strong point of Pyrenex is the filling power of its down. Calculated in CUIN - cubic inch - this is the capacity of a certain weight of filling to fill a certain volume. The greater the volume occupied, the greater the insulation and lightness of the down. Products with a filling power of over 500 are already considered to be top quality. But the exceptional LEGEND 1859 down from Pyrenex, available in 90% down or 100% down in some top-quality products, has an exceptional filling power of 850 cuin.

Le duvet est constitué d'un noyau central à partir duquel se déploient des filaments fins et légers. Cette structure tridimensionnelle forme de nombreux petits espaces qui emprisonnent l'air. L'air, étant un excellent isolant, contribue à minimiser les pertes de chaleur.
