Committed, always

Our history allows us to build on strong company values and drive our development while facing successive crises.

Our values of Trust, Commitment and Solidarity form the foundation that brings together our three areas of expertise: Feathers, Clothing and Home. All of this gives meaning to our strategic decisions.

Our approach towards a more sustainable world

Pyrenex's commitment is historic and rooted at the very heart of our DNA. From the very origins of our brand, in 1859, Abel Crabos chose a natural material — the feather — considered a waste product, to turn it into a noble material by giving it value. The feather is indeed a product embedded in the local circular economy. Its environmental footprint proves to be far lower than that of all synthetic materials, which gives it first-rate environmental performance.

The heart of Pyrenex's craft: upcycling

Pyrenex's business consists in recycling and upcycling a by-product from local agricultural supply chains that some consider a waste material — the feather — to turn it into a noble material. This essential raw material, at the heart of our pursuit of excellence, is down from the Pyrenees, harvested from the finest farms in the South-West of France. In doing so, we support local employment and the promotion of diverse regional skills, including those of our French designers and craftspeople, thus fostering a circular economy.

Pyrenex natural down

A by-product from the local agricultural supply chains of South-West France.

A "waste product" — feathers and down — transformed into a noble material essential for the thermal insulation properties of our products.

A natural, biodegradable filling 10 times less impactful on the environment than synthetic fillings (often derived from the petrochemical industry).

More than 1,000 tonnes of ennobled feathers per year.

Increasing the share of responsible materials

The selection of raw materials and other fabrics plays a crucial role in reducing the impact of our products. It is for this reason that we have put in place an ambitious plan aimed at increasing the proportion of eco-responsible materials in our collections.

  • Organic cotton across the entire Pyrenex knitwear range.
  • 100% recycled fabric in our windbreaker ranges.
  • Down jacket models made entirely from recycled materials.
  • Growing supply of 100% Made in France fabric.
  • End of PFAS: scientific studies on certain known PFAS show that they can have harmful effects on humans and the environment. Known for their stability, they are forever pollutants. Pyrenex has chosen, for the future, to do away with these treatments by using only C0 from the winter 2025 season onwards. A strong commitment that anticipates changes in global regulations in order to protect you as best as possible.

Producing more through short supply chains:

95% of our bedding range as well as 100% of our down are produced on site in Saint-Sever, Landes.

With this in mind, our teams are committed to a continuous approach of sourcing French and European components.

90% of raw feather supplies come from France (South-West and Vendée).

Pyrenex continues to expand its on-site down jacket manufacturing workshops (the "Saint-Sever" range) year after year. Currently, more than 75% of our down jacket production is made in Europe and in the "Euromed" zone (Tunisia, Bulgaria, Portugal and France).

Eco-design:

Drawing on our full and complete mastery of the design of our products, we continue our efforts in eco-design to demonstrate the impact of our choices: in the location of our factory, the durability of our products, and the selection of less impactful components. Consuming less and better.

For example, since 2018, we have reduced the climate impact of some of our iconic products by 70%, notably by choosing to no longer include fur in our collections.

Respect for animal welfare

There is a great deal of ignorance and many myths surrounding the production of our natural down.

Our commitment to traceability, animal welfare and the preservation of the environment is at the heart of our approach.

In this regard, Pyrenex does not rear any animals; we recover a material sourced from the French agricultural supply chain. In this approach, our choice to work with local players allows us to ensure a high level of standards in terms of animal welfare, farming conditions and strict compliance with current French regulations.

No duck or goose is plucked alive in the course of harvesting our down, and none of them is raised for the sole purpose of collecting its down.

Pyrenex holds the DOWNPASS label: this label guarantees compliance with ethical, quality and traceability standards for our feathers and down. This label is based in particular on the standards of the European Convention for the Protection of Animals kept for Farming Purposes.

The end of the use of animal fur

Since the winter 23/24 collection, Pyrenex has chosen to no longer use animal fur. This approach not only aligns with a respect for animal welfare, but also moves in a more sustainable environmental direction in terms of the impact of our products. Indeed, this choice to stop using fur, combined with our sourcing efforts, has allowed us to reduce the climate impact of a standard down jacket by approximately 70% (assessed in kg CO2 equivalent).

Moreover, this decision to stop using fur is total: we refuse to resort to synthetic fur, which is even more harmful to the planet.
