At Pyrenex, eco-design is an integral part of our DNA, and has been since the founding of our manufactory in 1859 in Saint-Sever. For more than 160 years, Pyrenex has been developing an unrivalled expertise in the collection, processing and sorting of feathers and down, as well as in the filling and manufacture of home and clothing products. This expertise is developed and passed down from generation to generation. This craft makes it possible to recycle and add value to a co-product from local agricultural supply chains — true upcycling.
The only European company to integrate every stage of production — enabling it to have complete mastery of its processes — it has a dedicated team that continuously repairs and optimises its machines and facilities, ensuring the manufacture of high-quality products.
The production site, located in Saint-Sever, certified ISO 9001 and 14001, is a benchmark in terms of quality, hygiene, safety and environmental respect, where a large proportion of bedding products are made by hand. Also unique in Europe, the feather production process is OekoTex certified by the IFTH. As a result, the majority of products are Oekotex certified, guaranteeing the absence of substances harmful to health.
Feathers & down and all products from the bedding range (duvets, pillows, mattress toppers, blankets and other eiderdowns) are 100% manufactured in our Saint-Sever manufactory. The creation of a down jacket workshop "made in Saint-Sever", inaugurated in 2019, extends the local production strategy. Pyrenex is also the only company in Europe bringing together all 3 activities: Feathers & Down; Bedding; and Clothing.
Key figures for 2019:
- Materials: High performance upcycled down.
- Filling: Natural down filling has a lower environmental impact compared to synthetic filling, in the order of 85% to 97%.
- Manufacturing: A 50% reduction in water consumption, 30% in gas and 20% in electricity over a decade. Re-localisation of a range of down jackets thanks to innovative technology in Saint-Sever.
This trophy recognises the work accomplished over more than a decade and encourages Pyrenex to continue reducing its environmental impact across all its current and future activities.
