From 23 April to 1 May 2022, the ultra-cycling race Desertus Bikus took place in Spain, crossing magnificent landscapes, from the wildest to the most idyllic. The riders had to cross Spain from north to south, setting off from Anglet all the way to Andalusia. We are proud to have contributed to its organisation as an official partner.
Pyrenex and sport: shared values and emotions
At Pyrenex, we are passionate and committed, which is why it felt entirely natural for us to support the adventurers' cycling event: the Desertus Bikus race. This race is organised by Yvan Thuaire, a passionate cyclist and ultra-distance enthusiast, already the organiser of another cycling race, the Pop Ouest Classic. His thirst for adventure led him to seek out other race opportunities that combine sport with fun and tourist-friendly adventure: the perfect combination for all those who love mixing genres, who commit without taking themselves too seriously, and who seek above all the thrill of escape!

It felt entirely natural for us to want to enter into a partnership with a self-supported ultra-cycling race: the Desertus Bikus.
4 deserts to cross, choices to be made
The Desertus Bikus race is a crossing of Spain in the form of an orienteering race. Designed on the principle of self-sufficiency, responsibility for plotting the route is left to the participants. The race organisers impose only 4 checkpoints in iconic locations: the Bardenas desert, the Montanas Vacias, the Gorafe desert, and the Tabernas desert.
The riders drew on their decision-making abilities to devise the best possible strategy. The diversity of roads and paths to be taken, along with the climatic and physical conditions, make this race a true human adventure spanning 1,250 km and 12,500 m of elevation gain.
Choice of route, tyres, equipment, and supplies: each athlete must make the best decision and own it in order to successfully complete this extraordinary adventure.
An adventure followed on social media
Due to the difficulty for riders of not being able to receive encouragement along the course, the Desertus Bikus race was widely relayed and broadcast. A dot-watching system using GPS trackers was notably put in place so that supporters could cheer on and follow the participants. Supporters contribute to the popularity of the event through their enthusiasm and comments on social media, with participants having been invited to share their most unusual photos and videos: @desertusbikus
