Warm, temperate or light duvet?
Heat index, weight and filling power
All our duvets have a filling of upcycled natural feathers and down, renowned for its lightness and thermoregulating properties.
Refer to the TOG rating , which measures the warmth of the duvet:
- Lightweight duvet (TOG < 7.5): Ideal for summer or for people who always get hot at night. Very breathable and perfect in a heated bedroom, its weight is generally between 80 and 180 g/m².
- Medium-weight duvet (TOG rating of 7.5 to 12): Perfect for mid-season (spring and autumn) or a room between 18 and 20°C. It's often a good compromise for year-round use in a well-insulated home. Its weight is generally between 180 and 220 g/m².
- Warm duvet (TOG > 12): Ideal for winter or cool or poorly heated rooms. It retains heat very well, perfect for those who are sensitive to the cold. Its weight is generally between 250 and 360 g/m².
Fill power measures the ability of down to regain its volume after compression. The higher the fill power, the lighter, more insulating, and therefore higher quality the down is. It is expressed in cuin (cubic inches).
per ounce).
- 300-400 cuin: standard quality
- 500-700 cuin: premium quality
- > 800 fill power: exceptional down
At Pyrenex, the fill power of our duvets varies from 480 to 850 cuin, offering premium to exceptional comfort depending on the model.
Which filling power?
Number of threads
The thread count per square centimeter indicates how many threads are woven into one square centimeter of fabric. The higher the number, the tighter the fabric, making it more durable and softer against the skin. The minimum thread count for a down-filled shell is 78 threads/cm².
Weaving
For better breathability, Pyrenex favors pure cotton covers. Our products range from canvas or twill, known for their durability, to satin and jacquard, which are more elegant and silky to the touch.
Finishing
Finishes play an important role in durability, aesthetics, and comfort.
- Bourdon: a decorative stitch used to add texture to embroidery.
- Double stitching: decorative stitching along an edge that reveals two parallel threads.
- Piping: in satin or cotton, with or without a wick (cotton thread inside the piping which forms a small ridge), it highlights the prints or cutouts of the pillowcases and facings.
- Turned seam: an open seam where both seam allowances are folded inside.
- Cassette: a strip of fabric that connects the top part of the duvet with the bottom part and visually creates volume.
- Inner spacer: a strip of fabric that connects one square to another, acting as a partition inside the duvet to allow for better homogeneity of the down inside.
