What is Ventile® cotton?

Ventile® is a cotton fabric made from extra-long fibres woven very tightly. Developed in the UK during the Second World War, it is now manufactured in Switzerland by Stotz.

How do Ventile® garments protect against rain?

When exposed to water, the cotton fibres swell and close together, helping to keep rain out while preserving the fabric’s breathability. Ventile® is therefore suitable for showers, though it is not described as fully waterproof.

Does Ventile® require a synthetic treatment?

Its natural protection against rain requires neither a synthetic membrane nor a PFC treatment. The fabric can also be given a traditional water-repellent finish made from paraffin and beeswax.
