Pyrenex is a love story — that of down and its craft, passed down from generation to generation, from collection to washing, sorting and making. At the heart of Pyrenex's DNA: a high-quality, upcycled French natural down.
Discover its secrets
Since June 2020, the Pyrenex manufacture has proudly held the "Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant" (EPV) label. Awarded by the French Ministry of the Economy and Finance, this distinction celebrates the excellence of French savoir-faire and recognises the work of the employees and collaborators who contribute day after day to the dynamism of Pyrenex.
Abel Crabos began collecting goose and duck feathers in 1859 from markets and farms in the Landes around his home village of Saint-Sever.
René Crabos, his son, joined the family business "Abel Crabos & Fils" based in Saint-Sever. René, a rugby champion and captain of the French national team, instilled the values of commitment, trust and solidarity that forged the distinctive character of the company.
Marie Crabos, wife of René, designed and made the first "solidarity" puffer jackets for humanitarian purposes: to protect from the cold the Landes prisoners of war from the village of Saint-Sever. The puffer jackets were sent to Germany via the Red Cross.
André Crabos, son of René, created the first bedding workshops at the heart of the Saint-Sever manufacture.
Jean Pierre Crabos, André's brother, joined the family business.
The name evokes the nearby mountain range, the natural terrain for its products. This was also the year the first sleeping bags were created.
