The history of Pyrenex

Pyrenex is a love story — that of the feather and its craft — passed down from generation to generation, from collection to washing, sorting and making. It is also a family story, of men and women who share the same values: authenticity, well-being and naturalness.

The beginning

From 1859, Abel Crabos collected goose and duck feathers from markets and farms in the Landes region around his native village of Saint-Sever.

Passing the torch

René Crabos, his son, joins the family company "Abel Crabos & Fils" based in Saint-Sever. René, a rugby champion and captain of the French national team, instils the values of commitment, trust and solidarity that forge the distinctive character of the company.

The first down jackets

Marie Crabos, wife of René, designs and makes the first "solidarity" down jackets for humanitarian purposes: to protect from the cold the Landes prisoners of war from the village of Saint-Sever. The down jackets are sent to Germany via the Red Cross.

Jean Pierre Crabos, André's brother, joins the family business.

The PYRENEX brand is born

The name evokes the nearby mountain range, the natural terrain for its products. This is also the year the first sleeping bags were created.

A fresh start under Édouard Crabos

Édouard Crabos, son of Jean-Pierre, takes the helm of Pyrenex and places the brand back at the heart of the company's strategy. Pyrenex strengthens its position as number 1 in the French bedding market, while its ready-to-wear line returns to the fore with the great comeback of the down jacket in the fashion market.
