Just as with a mattress, choosing good bedding is important when you want to enjoy a good night's sleep. Admittedly, choosing a quality bed duvet often represents a significant financial investment. However, it is above all a long-term investment in order to enjoy restorative sleep. Here is our advice for choosing a quality bedcover:
Choosing a quality filling
The main difference between quality bedding and cheap bedding lies primarily in its filling. Compared to a polyester filling, a natural down filling provides far better thermal insulation. This down guarantees natural temperature regulation, while the feathers give the duvet springiness for a better lofting effect and an enhanced feeling of comfort. The advantage of opting for natural filling lies in its ability to allow air to circulate freely. Down and feathers prevent the condensation effect, which can limit night-time perspiration.
Down has been at the heart of Pyrenex's expertise for over 160 years. Although costly, we have chosen this material to produce premium bedspreads, guaranteeing you unrivalled product longevity.

Did you know? Thanks to its expertise and experience, Pyrenex has developed a duck down that surpasses the characteristics of goose down, which is generally loftier than duck down: the "Legend 1859" down, the "finest of downs" with insulation and lightness performance never before achieved.
The choice of materials
The choice of fabrics used in a bed cover also has an impact on the quality of your sleep. By favouring natural fibres, such as cotton or silk, the thread will be denser and more tightly woven, allowing your down to last over time without ever breaking or deteriorating.
At Pyrenex, all our duvets have covers blending cotton, combed cotton or even satin. These offer premium, high-quality finishes, a standard in our made-in-France bedding.
The type of stitching
Depending on the type of stitching used, the down inside will stay more or less in place. Natural down duvets tend to scatter; a square stitching – which is the standard at Pyrenex – for example will help keep the filling in place so that it is distributed evenly and heat loss is minimised as much as possible.
Our blankets very often feature a box-wall square stitching combined with a double-stitch and cotton piping finish to minimise down loss as much as possible.
The right weight
Choosing the right weight also makes a difference in its insulating role. Generally speaking, a light weight is recommended for summer duvets, whereas in winter it is better to opt for a heavier weight. To help you, the "TOG" index is ideal for choosing this weight:

The right dimensions
To choose the right dimensions for a bed cover, it is important to take into account a few parameters such as the dimensions of the bed and the height or build of the sleepers; on the other hand, certain choices will depend on your sleeping habits or your preferred overhang. If, for example, you move around a lot at night, you should opt for a well-covering duvet that will not shift as easily. Generally, an additional 30 to 50 cm in length beyond the size of your mattress is recommended.

Certifications and labels
Through labels, consumers have an additional guarantee on the products they are going to purchase. Labels in the textile sector guarantee a higher quality of the fabrics used or of the manufacturing method.
If you are allergic to dust mites, consider the GREENFIRST® label: it is a completely natural, plant-based anti-dust mite treatment that guarantees performance even after several washes.
Did you know? To provide you with the highest quality products that stand the test of time, Pyrenex duvets are OEKO-TEX® and GREENFIRST® certified. The OEKO-TEX® label certifies 100% freedom from substances harmful to human health, both in the cover and the inner filling.

You can complete your bedding with a quality pillow by choosing a natural down filling that will contribute to your restorative nights' sleep.
