What does the waterproof rating in millimetres mean?

The rating measures the height of a column of water the fabric can withstand without letting water through. The higher it is, the better the jacket withstands heavy, prolonged rain. At Pyrenex, it starts at 3,000 mm for the Grace and Easy and rises to 5,000 mm for the Meadow and Magnesia, enough to handle rain in the city.

What is a Ventile cotton raincoat?

Ventile is a cotton woven so tightly that it becomes waterproof upon contact with water, without any synthetic membrane. Pyrenex uses it on the Inverness long jacket and the Cruiser jacket, made of 100% cotton. It is a natural alternative to technical fabrics, with a classic, matte finish whose look recalls the English mac.

Does a waterproof jacket keep you warm?

Most are not padded: they protect against rain and wind, not the cold. For both, Pyrenex offers waterproof models filled with duck down. The Easy parka, with 800 fill power down, is rated for -5°C to +10°C. The Nova, 100% waterproof, covers -10°C to +5°C.
